Box Score An unpredictable, historic season continued for the John Carroll football team on Saturday at home as theBlue Streaks defeated the No. 10 Heidelberg Student Princes by a lopsided score of 48-7.

It was billed as a bout between a pair of Ohio Athletic Conference heavyweights, but the host Blue Streaks knocked down the Student princes early and often.

The No. 14 Blue Streaks (9-0, 8-0 OAC) continued their perfect campaign by dominating the Student Princes (7-2, 5-2 OAC) from start to finish, setting themselves up for an epic showdown with No. 1 Mount Union next week in the regular season finale. The winner of next weekend's game will win the Ohio Athletic Conference outright and clinch an automatic bid in the D3 playoffs.

While Heidelberg came into the game with the No. 2 ranked scoring offense in the nation (54 points per game), the Blue Streaks immediately proved that they, too, can light up the scoreboard. Junior quarterback Mark Myers and the JCU offense engineered a 12-play opening drive, capped off by a 1-yard touchdown rush from senior DaQuan Grobsmith to give JCU the early 7-0 lead.

The first quarter ended with the Blue Streaks holding a narrow 7-0 lead, and it seemed as if the game was on track to live up to its hype.

And then the flood gates opened.

Junior wide receiver Aramis Greenwood reeled in a 3-yard touchdown catch from Myers early in the second quarter to push JCU's lead to 14-0. Just over two minute later, Greenwood reeled in yet another touchdown pass – this time a 45-yard catch – from Myers, giving the Blue Streaks a controlling 21-0 lead with 11:40 remaining before halftime.

The Student Princes, however, responded with an 8-yard touchdown pass from Michael Mees to Donteea Dye, cutting the deficit to 21-7. That score marked the first offensive touchdown scored by an opponent against John Carroll in the first half this year.

After that, the John Carroll defensive lived up to its billing as the top ranked points allowed unit in the land by not allowing another point.

The Blue Streaks offense responded as well, as junior running back Tommy Michals punched in a 2-yard touchdown, pushing the lead back to 21 for JCU, 28-7.

A 31-yard field goal from junior Kresimir Ivkovic gave the Blue Streaks a 31-7 lead at halftime, stunning the crowd at Don Shula Stadium with a blowout score at the intermission.

At the start of the second half, the Blue and Gold refused to take their foot off the pedal. Grobsmith picked up his second rushing touchdown of the day with an 11-yard burst up the middle, making the score 38-7 in favor of the Blue Streaks. An 18-yard field goal from Ivkovic later in the quarter gave JCU a 41-7 lead through three quarters.

With the game in hand, the Blue Streaks put the icing on the cake with a 73-yard touchdown connection from Myers to Greenwood, capping off a three-touchdown day for Greenwood and giving JCU a 48-7 victory over the Student Princes.

"It's a great feeling. I'm so proud of our players, first and foremost," said head coach Tom Arth. "Their attitude, their belief, their confidence – the way that they prepare and the way that they play, I couldn't ask for anything more. It's a special group."

With the win, the Blue Streaks improve to 9-0 for the first time since 1989 – a span of 24 years. While it is all but certain at this point that JCU will secure an at-large berth in the D3 playoffs, the Blue Streaks are focused on next weekend's showdown with the No. 1 University of Mount Union Purple Raiders. The winner of that game will decide the 2013 OAC regular season champion. Considering that Mount Union has won every OAC Championship since 1995, it certainly won't be an easy task for the Blue Streaks.

"It feels great," said Aramis Greenwood of the opportunity to play for the OAC title. "They're a 9-0 Mount Union team, but what people don't understand is we're a 9-0 John Carroll team. As long as we play to the best of our God-given ability, I feel like nothing can get in our way."
