The men's soccer team reached its third straight championship match in the OAC Tournament today.
Box Score Faced with its third straight opportunity to add to the five OAC Tournament titles listed on the banner inside the DeCarlo Varsity Center, the John Carroll University men's soccer team squared off against Ohio Northern University for the men's soccer title.
Heading to Ada, Ohio for the third straight year the Blue Streaks fell to the host Polar Bears 3-0.
Matt Kinkopf netted his 15th goal of the season to open the scoring in the games 19th minute. The Polar Bears added a pair of goals before halftime with Shintaroh Itho and Jeremy Barnes finding the back of the net.
The Blue Streaks broke through with its prime offensive opportunity for the match in the 78th minute.
Kevin McKamish sent the first of three consecutive shots towards the Polar Bear goal with
Brian Potocnik's shot banging off of the post, but JCU was unable to get on the board.
JCU scrambled to get on the board to start the second half with
Mariusz Trzeciak's shot being blocked and
Michael Melfi sailing a shot wide of the net.
John Carroll's forwards were stifled in the first half only mustering up two shots. Potocnik sailed a shot wide in the eighth minute with
Thor Eriksen sending a shot over the net in the 27th minute.
John Carroll turned up the offensive pressure in the second half holding a 9-3 shot advantage down the stretch but Ohio Northern owned a 15-11 shot advantage for the match.
