One night after avenging a weekend loss to Marietta to stay alive in the 2013 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, the Blue Streaks headed to Alliance, Ohio for the quarterfinal round game against Mount Union with high hopes.

Though they trailed by only two points well into the second half, the JCU women's team was not able to hang on.

The bitter sweet season came to an end Tuesday night as the Blue Streaks fell to the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders by a final score of 82-63 in the OAC quarterfinals.

With Monday as the start of the tournament, JCU showed the Pioneers how they played basketball at the DeCarlo Varsity Center, pulling out a 60-53 win to advance into the quarterfinals.

On Tuesday night, the Blue Streaks battled but trailed 40-33 at the break. Junior captain Missy Spahar showed her leadership in the first half with 10 points and four rebounds.

But she wasn't the only JCU junior to make an impact, as the Blue Streaks fought back to within fingers' reach of the semifinals.

With 15:40 left in play, junior point guard Allie Lustig swished a jump shot that tightened the score to 40-45 in favor of the Pioneers. A foul by Marietta's freshman guard, Annie Bova, took sophomore Emily Taylor to the line. She added two points to draw the Streaks within two.

With only 14:09 left to play, the Blue Streaks trailed, 47-45.

The run was short-lived, however, as Marietta replied a 25-5 scoring surge that put the game out of reach.

Spahar ended the game with a team-high 18 points followed by her teammate, Taylor, with 12. Junior Hilary Liwosz and Lustig also contributed with 10 points each.

With no senior on the roster, the entire team has participated into the OAC tournament at least once, which will give them stride for the upcoming season.

The Blue Streaks ended their 2012-2013 campaign with a record of 14-13.
