D3baseball.com released its annual All-America team this week, and John Carroll's junior first basemen
Jimmy Spagna was named Honorable Mention, a distinction that spans all of NCAA Division III baseball.
Spagna, who has already been named first team
All-Mideast Region by D3baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association, was a
first team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection after an outstanding junior year.
He punished opposing pitchers this season to the tune of a .352 batting average, seven home runs, and 48 runs batted in despite playing in only 30 of John Carroll's 41 games. In the field, Spagna played the first base position well, as his .988 fielding percentage illustrates. He also contributed two wins on the pitcher's mound in 48.2 innings of work.
With Spagna as a driving force, the Blue Streaks earned a OAC regular season runner-up finish and the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. JCU finished 26-15 overall, 13-5 in league play.
Spagna was one of four OAC players to be named All-America, joining Otterbein's Wes Meadows (first team), Marietta's Alex Toth (second team), and Baldwin Wallace's Branden Toughey (Honorable Mention).
More than 800 Division III baseball players were nominated for the
seventh annual D3baseball.com All-America teams.
