Box Score The "Curse of the Scots" is broken.

After losing four consecutive matches over a period of eight years to the College of Wooster, including a 3-2 overtime stunner in 2012, the Blue Streaks at long last posted a hard-earned 2-1 victory Thursday night at Don Shula Stadium, raising their record to 4-1 on the year.

Wooster opened the match with Matt Ehrenburg scoring a goal at the eleventh minute.

The second half was all Blue Streaks. Mariusz Trzeciak scored the equalizer at the 45:37 mark, assisted by a Thor Eriksen's cross from the left side.

John Carroll didn't let up their attack on Wooster's defense. In the 64th minute, Michael Melfi scored his second goal of the season, which proved to be the game-winning tally, on yet another assist from senior Thor Eriksen.

Although the winning point was credited to him, the unassuming Melfi deferred the true credit to John Carroll's ability to capitalize on its unrelenting pressure.

"It was mainly teamwork ... Without my teammates, the goal would have never happened," the sophomore forward said.

John Carroll finished the night with 20 shots to Wooster's six, and had an impressive 13 corner kicks.

With this nonconference win, John Carroll hopes to gain more confidence to achieve their goal of taking home the Ohio Athletic Conference title.

As head coach Hector Marinaro explained, "Our only goal is to win the OAC, plain and simple."
