No Road Blues This Time Around As JCU Women's Soccer Earns Tie At Wooster

Kayla Acklin and John Carroll forged a well-earned 1-1 tie at Wooster
Box Score Even though the distance between the two schools is approximately 60 miles, the road to Wooster for the John Carroll women's soccer team has been quite the perilous path.

Save for one victory in 1998, John Carroll had made its way out to Wooster 14 times prior to today and had come back with a loss on 13 of those occasions.

So it would stand that a 1-1 tie forged by the Blue Streaks against the host Fighting Scots at Carl Dale Field Wednesday afternoon was not just well earned, but appreciated.

John Carroll outshot Wooster in the opening half by a 10-6 count, but the score remained 0-0 after the opening 45 minutes.

In the 53rd minute, the Blue Streaks broke through thanks to the second goal of the season by Kay Akerly. But less than three minutes later, Kyrsten Kamlowsky got the equalizer when she played a ball following a shot that had seconds earlier struck the crossbar.

JCU weathered several storms in the closing minutes of the second period to force overtime (including another crossbar shot), and then held on to the draw despite being outshot 4-1 in the overtime.

Both squads ended the match with 19 shot attempts and seven corner kicks.

Nicole Grys made six saves as John Carroll ran its unbeaten streak to five matches. Since an 0-3-1 start, the Blue Streaks have gone 3-0-2 since September 11.
