MEADVILLE, Pa. - The John Carroll University women's soccer team faced a relentless opponent on Wednesday afternoon as Allegheny College posted a 3-0 victory over the Blue Streaks in Meadville, Pa.
The Gators fired 27 shots during the game including 21 in the second half. Junior goalkeeper
Haley McDonald had an answer for 12 of those shots with the other two saves being team saves. The 12 saves for McDonald marked the third time in her career with 10 or more saves.
Allegheny's Hannah Zangara scored in the 25th minute for the first goal of the game to put the Gators on the board.
The Blue Streaks found some offensive momentum in the final minute of the first half but
Andrea Regrut's shot was turned away by Gabby Curtis with nine seconds remaining.
John Carroll continued its offensive momentum in the first 10 minutes of the second half with shots by
Genny Goergen and
Preston Mendel being saved by Kylie Mason.
Allegheny turned up the offensive pressure and regained momentum but McDonald turned away four shots on goal between the 56th and 61st minutes. However Alison Buzzard sent the rebound into the goal for the Gators' second goal of the contest.
Emily Byers rounded out the scoring for Allegheny during the 85th minute.
John Carroll falls to 0-2 on the young season while Allegheny improves to 1-1-1.
The Blue Streaks travel to Oneonta, N.Y. for the Oneonta Mayor's Cup tournament. John Carroll will play Hartwick College on Saturday, Sept. 7 at 3:30 p.m. before facing Oneota State on Sunday, Sept. 8 at noon.
