Women's Soccer Runs Shutout Streak To Four With 1-0 Blanking Of Ohio Northern

It has been extremely hard to score on the John Carroll University women's soccer team as of late.

Haley McDonald came up with eight more saves and Chrissy Garcia scored with less than 10 minutes remaining in regulation to give JCU its second straight 1-0 win on Saturday afternoon in Ada, Ohio. The win marked the Blue and Gold's fourth straight shutout.

The senior defender scored her first career goal in the 81st minute to give JCU its first regular season win at ONU since 2002. JCU also beat ONU in Ada in the OAC Seimifinals in 2011. Coincidently, both the 2002 and 2011 scores were 1-0.

"It was exciting to see Chrissy get her first goal of her career," said head coach Michael Marich. "She has been working really hard in a new role for us this year."

John Carroll looked to push the pace early and nearly jumped on the scoreboard in the first six minutes of the game. Kay Akerly rifled a shot in the sixth minute but Emily Brodict was able to deflect the ball and keep it out of the net. JCU's senior captain had another prime opportunity 50 seconds later with her shot catching the post of the net.

McDonald has now posted 43 saves over the last four games without allowing a goal.

Said Marich, "Haley has led a great defensive team effort over the past few games and she has been able to make some really huge saves and keep us in games against very good opponents."

For the game the Blue and Gold would finish with a 13-9 edge on shots. JCU had been outshot in its prior three contests.

John Carroll improved to 7-2-1, 1-0-0 OAC while Ohio Northern fell to 4-5-1, 0-1-0 OAC.

The women's soccer team hosts Otterbein at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8.
