Women's Soccer Falls In Overtime In First Round Of OAC Tournament

An overtime thriller took place less than two weeks ago between the John Carroll University women's soccer team and Capital. Tuesday's OAC Tournament first round match would need overtime to be decided.

Capital's Shelby Johnson scored on a loose ball rebound in the 95th minute to lift the Crusaders to the 1-0 overtime win in Tuesday afternoon inside Bernlohr Stadium in Bexley, Ohio.

Haley McDonald recorded a career-high 15 saves and was instrumental in give the Blue Streaks a chance. The senior recorded nine saves in the first half as the Blue and Gold were outshot 14-3.

McDonald was kept busy in the match's first 10 minutes coming up with three saves on six Capital shot attempts. The Blue Streak defense settled in only allowing two shots in the ensuing 10 minutes.

The Pittsburgh, Pa. native came up with two stops in overtime before Johnson's game-winner.

John Carroll had more success on offense in the second half recording seven shots.

The Blue Streaks' first prime scoring opportunity came in the 51st minute when Maggie Reilly was turned away by Kim Leitch. Leitch would turn away shots from Dana Roman (73') and Kelly Kertis (78').
