Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Faced with a quick turnaround with Thursday's 5-hour rain delay and having its Friday doubleheader moved up the John Carroll University baseball team looked to carry over its best offensive performance of the season from Thursday night.

John Carroll's hitters carried the offense over stringing together 14 hits in taking the first game 10-5 over Moravian.

The second gmae turned into an offensive slugfest with 36 combined hits as Moravian would regroup to take the 21-10 decision.

Game 1
With the wind blowing out it was only a matter of time before John Carroll's hitters would come up with the big hit. David Crowley came up with not one but two homers.

The sophomore drilled a 2-out, 3-2 pitch for his first homer of the game, a 2-run shot in the fifth inning which put John Carroll up 6-2. In his next at bat Crowley mashed a 1-2 pitch over the fence in right center to lead off the seventh inning and open up a 5-run lead for the Blue Streaks.

"He had two strikes on him," said head coach Marc Thibeault. "He did a pretty good job barreling it up and stayed short. He got it up in the jet stream and it worked to our advantage. It was very good to see. His second one was just as impressive because it extended the lead and put Moravian on its heels. Those were two key moments of the first game."

The Blue Streaks jumped out to another quick start against the Greyhounds. John Carroll pelted away on Moravian starter Nicolas Ampietro from the start. Bobby Sabatino drove in the game's first run clubbing a double to the right-center gap to plate Robby Cifelli. Two batters later Jimmy Spagna drove the first pitch he saw in the contest to the centerfield fence to bring in Sabatino.

"It was great to jump out and gain the momentum," said Thibeault. "It worked extremely well for us. Seven inning (games) are different than nine. You may manage or do things differently in that game because everything happens a lot quicker in terms of your bunts and steals. It was good to gain the momentum and not allow Moravian to get it back.

John Carroll would add two more runs in the top of the first inning. David Crowley roped John Carroll's fourth hit of the inning up the middle to drive in Spagna. David Lykens brought in the fourth run of the frame with a RBI groundout.

Knowing it had to answer and answer quickly due to the 7-inning setup of the doubleheader Moravian struck for two in the bottom of the first when Matt Hanson tattooed a hanging breaking ball from JCU starter Brandon Maddern into the swamp beyond the right field fence.

JCU responded with two runs in the fifth inning on Crowley's homer and a three in the sixth.

John Carroll's big bats did the damage in the sixth inning. Jake Schoch drove a 3-1 pitch through the right side of the infield to give the Blue Streaks a 1-out base runner. The Blue and Gold's 2-3-4 hitters then went to work with Sabatino slicing a 1-2 pitch into right field. Mitchell Herringshaw then roped a double down the left field line to bring in the second run of the inning before Spagna hit a blooper which fell on the foul line for the final run of the frame.

Moravian would try to work its way back in the game with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth but could not pull closer than three runs down the stretch.

Maddern picked up the win to move to 1-0 on the season. The sophomore fired 4.2 innings, scattering six hits and allowing three runs. Crowley and Lauer each finished with two hits while Sabatino and Schoch each had a pair of hits.

Game 2
The Greyhounds jumped on starting pitcher Bill Turosky in the second game of the twin billing striking for two runs in the top of the first inning. Colin Casess and Ryan Luke ripped back-to-back doubles to plate Moravian's first run of the game. Luke would come in to score on a RBI groundout by Joseph Connell.

The Blue and Gold looked to start strong in the bottom of the first inning as the home team for the first time this trip. Cifelli and Sabatino both reached base and advanced into scoring position on a double steal. Spagna drove in Cifelli with a RBI groundout.

From there the Greyhounds continued to pile up run after run sending blooper after blooper into the Blue Streak outfield. Moravian would strike for eight runs in the second inning and four more in the third to open up a 14-1 lead.

JCU would heat up as the game progressed but it was too little too late.

JCU looked to mount a late rally scoring five runs in the fifth inning. Sabatino drove in John Carroll's second run of the game plating Cifelli to start the rally. After Herringshaw was plunked in the helmet Joe Wilimczyk reached via error to load the bases. Chet Lauer XXXXx

Moravian responded right back with three runs in the top of the sixth to open up a 20-6 lead.

The Blue Streaks added four runs in the sixth inning to reach double figures for the third straight game. The Blue Streaks received RBIs from Wilimczyk, Patrick Scholla and Jacob Schriner. Lauer scored the fourth run of the inning coming in to score on a wild pitch.

Turosky fell to 0-1 on the year with the loss. Sabatino finished a perfect 4 for 4 at the plate with a RBI and a stolen base.
