Box Score John Carroll may have to simply skip over season openers from now on.
The Blue Streaks are without a win in their first game of a season since 2008, and that trend continued in a tough way Friday evening in Danville, Kentucky. Host Centre College scored three times in the opening 15 minutes and never looked back in rolling to a 6-0 victory over JCU.
If John Carroll was looking for a silver lining after today's result, the 2013 campaign started in similar fashion. The Streaks lost 5-0 to Thomas More in last year's first contest, yet still came back to win a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title.
Today's match may sting for a few hours nevertheless. Centre led 4-0 at the half, and outshot the Blue Streaks by an 18-3 count.
JCU had two shots on goal, both in the first half, recorded by
Preston Mendel and
Kay Akerly.
The Blue Streaks (0-1) will face Transylvania University (1-0) in Lexington, Kentucky, on Saturday. The Pioneers won their season opener today, 3-0, against Carleton.
