The John Carroll University women's basketball team tends to come to life in the second half. It needed to in a big way on Wednesday evening in Tiffin, Ohio.

Down nine with 2:01 remaining in regulation No. 17 John Carroll would rally to tie the game at 64 sending the mid-week conference tilt into overtime. Heidelberg would regroup in overtime to take the 78-75 decision.

Sophomore
Katlyn Spahar would lead the comeback at the end of regulation. Spahar buried a 3-pointer with 1:46 remaining to spark a 9-0 run to end regulation. Senior
Beth Switzler capped the run with a layup off of a Heidelberg turnover.

The 'Berg missed two field goals and two free throws over the final minute including a would-be game winner from Theresa Jackson that rimmed out as the clock expired.

John Carroll took the lead in overtime on a
Shmoo Pryor layup. Switzler would push JCU's lead to three at 70-67 with 2:14 remaining in the extra stanza, the last lead for the Blue Streaks.

Allie Hawkins led Heidelberg scoring the 'Berg's next six points, the last two a jumper putting Heidelberg up for good with 42 second remaining.

Spahar's game-tying 3-pointer was off the mark as the clock expired in overtime.

JCU used a 10-0 run in the first half to open up a 12-4 lead with 12:40 remaining. The Blue Streaks received bench production early from freshman
Sarah Cairnie with four points during the strong start.

Heidelberg counted with a 9-0 run to reclaim the lead at 13-12 at the midway point of the first half.

John Carroll briefly pulled back in from at 14-13 and 17-15 but would not hold another lead in the game until the beginning of overtime.

Emily Taylor paced the Blue and Gold with a game-high 17 points. The senior added a career-high eight rebounds.

John Carroll would have four players with eight or more rebounds including Switzler with a team-best 10. The senior coupled the rebounds with 15 points for her fifth double-double of the year.

Pryor (14) and Spahar (11) also reached double figures for the Blue Streaks.

Heidelberg improved to 8-10, 6-5 OAC while John Carroll fell to 16-2, 9-2 OAC. The loss snapped the Blue Streaks' 10-game win streak.

John Carroll returns home to take on Ohio Northern at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31.
