The John Carroll volleyball team won the first set on Tuesday, but was unable to maintain that advantage, falling to Heidelberg in four sets at the DeCarlo Varsity Center.
Â
The Blue Streaks (10-11, 2-2 OAC) came into their fourth conference matchup against Heidelberg (17-6, 4-0 OAC) looking for their first home win against the Berg since 2005.
Â
Strong play by the Heidelberg front line proved too much for the Streaks, as they couldn't garner momentum.
Â
In the first set, Carroll jumped out to an early lead after finding success on the attack. The Blue Streaks had 16 kills in the first set, as
Alexa Webber led the way with six kills.
Kit O'Shaughnessy had 14 assists in the set and Sarah Kaminski accumulated 6 digs as JCU ran away with the set, 25-17.
Â
Heidelberg took the next three sets, consecutively. The Berg took the second and third sets by a score of 25-16. JCU was unable to rally in the fourth set, as Heidelberg won, 25-17, and the match along with it.
Â
Webber and
Sarah Orlandi led the team with 12 kills each. O'Shaughnessy produced 41 assists, and Kaminski had 24 digs. The team takes on a non-conference opponent in Buffalo State at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
