The John Carroll volleyball team found itself in a perilous position on Tuesday night in Alliance.
A win would keep them in the hunt for a home match in the OAC tournament, and a loss would likely doom them to a long road journey.
The Blue Streaks got it done.
Leah Switalski led all players with 18 kills as JCU defeated Mount Union in four sets (22-25, 25-16, 26-24, 25-14) in Alliance, Ohio on Tuesday.
This was the first program win against Mount Union since 2001, a losing streak that spanned 15 matches.
Sarah Orlandi added 12 kills, while Sara Kaminski notched 24 digs and Kit O'Shaughnessy racked up 41 assists.
Maddie McDowell filled up the stat sheet as well, with a game-high six blocks.
The win sets up a must-win showdown with Muskingum in New Concord on Saturday. The Blue Streaks hold their own destiny; if they defeat the Fighting Muskies, they will clinch a home game as either the third or fourth seed in the OAC Tournament.
A loss could relegate the Blue Streaks to as low as fifth, a slot that would force them to travel for every contest.
The Purple Raiders took the first set, but JCU did not fold. Six Blue Streaks recorded a kill in each of the final three sets, as the Blue Streaks came out on top.
The second set victory was key, as the nine-point win spurred JCU through a difficult third set. An 11-point win in the fourth game snapped the historic losing streak.
Mount Union recorded 17 total errors over the final two sets; McDowell blocked four shots in the final set to put an exclamation point on the win.
Another Blue Streak entered the history book on Tuesday night. Katie Cosker recorded her 1000th career dig; she ranks 18th all-time in the statistic.
The regular-season finale begins at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday in New Concord, Ohio. JCUSports.com will have the latest information on tournament seeding as it becomes available.
