All season long, John Carroll had relied on grittiness to grind out wins. Conversely, Ohio Northern had relied on an explosive offense.

Tonight in Ada, the explosions got the better of the gritty.

Ohio Northern used two quick strike goals near the end of the first half to cruise to a 3-0 win in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal round match.

The numbers seemed to suggest a closer contest than the final score would indicate. The Polar Bears had a slight edge in shots (13-12) and John Carroll actually had more shots on goal (8-4).

Trouble was, the Polar Bears finished three of their four in the goal. Alex Weirich headed in the first goal off a corner in the 31st minute, and Shelby Stephens followed less than four minutes later when she pounced on a defensive miscue.

Weirich added the caper ten minutes into the second half with yet another header.

John Carroll, which played the toughest schedule in the OAC this season (59th toughest in all of Division III), ended the year with a record of 7-12-2.
