The city of Tiffin, Ohio, has proven to be one of the more difficult places to travel for the John Carroll women's basketball team in the past year.
On Wednesday evening, that trend continued. The Blue Streaks fell to Heidelberg, 79-62, in their first Ohio Athletic Conference matchup of the season.
Â
JCU (4-2, 0-1 OAC) was unable to get shots to fall, shooting 33.8% from the field. The Berg now holds a two-game winning streak over JCU after snapping a nine-game skid against the Blue Streaks this past February.
Â
John Carroll's offense started out slow, but that did not stop them from capitalizing on Heidelberg's (3-2, 1-0 OAC) eight turnovers. The Blue Streaks finished the first quarter leading, 18-14, but that would be the last lead held by the Blue and Gold at the end of a ten-minute block.
Â
In the second quarter, Heidelberg gained steadily on John Carroll. The Blue Streaks matched the Berg's eight turnovers and at halftime, the score was dead even at 36.
Â
Heidelberg came out strong in the third quarter, outscoring John Carroll 22-10 to start the half. Already leading by nine going into the fourth quarter, the Berg never let up, finishing off the Blue Streaks.
Â
The Berg scored 26 points off of turnovers in the contest.
Â
Leading the Blue Streaks, was sophomore Shmoo Pryor scored 16 points, and Sarah Cairnie added 12 rebounds. Senior Marisa Liburdi and junior Carli Patrick each contributed 17 points for the Berg.
Â
JCU will return home and look to rebound when they host Ohio Northern on Saturday at 3 p.m.
