The John Carroll University men's lacrosse team rallied in the fourth quarter but could not hold off a hard-charging Baldwin Wallace swarm on Wednesday evening in Berea, Ohio.
Baldwin Wallace would win the cross-town rivalry 12-11 thanks to Shane Rakich's game-winner with 1:07 remaining.
John Carroll trailed 9-7 entering the fourth quarter but quickly scored four goals to take the 11-9 lead with 6:49 remaining. But the hosts would score three unanswered over the final 3:11 to squeak out a one-goal win.
Keegan Flinter led the fourth quarter rally blazing in his 12th goal of the season with 13:36 remaining.
Declan O'Grady would tie the game with 8:46 left in the contest with his 35th strike of the season.
Collin Rice and
Ryan Crater pushed the Blue and Gold's lead to two before the Yellow Jackets came back to close out the game.
John Carroll led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. JCU received goals from Crater and
Gary Anile over the final 2:23 of the frame to open up the one-goal advantage.
Baldwin Wallace scored four unanswered to end the first half with a 6-4 advantage. The Yellow Jackets would maintain the two-goal lead after 45 minutes of play scoring three of the final four goals of the third period.
O'Grady led John Carroll with three goals on the night. The reigning OAC Men's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week added two assists on the evening. Defensively
Tommy Adolf had five caused turnovers and three ground balls.
John Carroll finished with a 16-11 edge on faceoffs and a 11-9 edge in saves.
Baldwin Wallace improved to 11-0, 3-0 OAC with the win. John Carroll fell to 7-5, 1-2 OAC with the loss.
John Carroll remains on the road with a 1 p.m. tilt at Capital on Saturday, April 18.
