The rain slowed the playing field early, but the John Carroll women's soccer wasn't able to completely slow down a nationally-ranked opponent.
Two second-half goals put Centre College over the top of the Blue Streaks, 3-0, in a rainy Friday night contest at Don Shula Stadium.
Gray skies and consistent rain played a role in the lack of first-half offense between both teams. The Colonels scored the first score of the game in the 38' thanks to an unassisted line drive shot from Nancy Ingham.
Prior to the opening score, JCU goalkeeper Rhianna Guarnera had three impressive saves. An additional save from the second-year goalie kept the deficit at one going into halftime.
Solid defense was the hallmark of the second half until Katie Downing netted her first score of the season for Centre in the 45th minute. Downing finished a shot that deflected directly off the crossbar. Six minutes later, Alex Combs scored to extend the Colonels lead to three.
Guarnera concluded the evening with eight saves against an aggressive Centre attack. Previous to tonight's matchup, the Colonels scored 11 goals in their three games.
Next up for the Blue Streaks is another non-conference battle against the Hiram Terriers on Monday at 7:30 pm in Hiram, Ohio. Live stats and video are available at JCUSports.com.
