John Carroll has played its fair share of nationally ranked teams so far this season, and has stood toe to toe with each one.
Friday night in Pittsburgh, the gap between toes seemed further apart than usual, as a flurry of first half goals set the tone for host and sixth ranked Carnegie Mellon's 5-1 victory over the Blue Streaks.
For the first half of the opening period, John Carroll did its usual hard work in staying competitive with an elite program. Aftre the Tartans scored the opening goal on a shot by Haili Adams in the 16th minute, the Blue Streaks responded when
Dre Regrut connected on her first goal of the 2015 campaign to tie the score at 1-1.
Over the next 13 minutes, the issue would be decided in decisive fashion as Carnegie Melloon erupted for three consecutive goals to take a 4-1 lead into the break.
The Tartans tacked on a late goal in the 82nd minute for the final margin.
The host squad dominated the contest with a 21-3 shots advantage and attempted all seven corners in the match.
JCU falls to 2-6-1 on the year while Carnegie Mellon improved to 7-0-1.
