Shula Stadium Dominance Continues For Men's Soccer As JCU Wins Home Opener

Don Shula Stadium has treated the John Carroll University men's soccer program well over the past three years with just two losses on the ledger covering 29 matches.

Therefore, it should come as no great surprise that the six home games on the Blue Streak's schedule in 2015 kicked off in style on Wednesday late afternoon. The Blue and Gold tallied four first half goals en route to  5-0 victory over the St. Vincent Bearcats in an exciting mid-week con-conference affair.

Sophomore Dalton Browsky and junior Justin Miller delivered commanding performances as both players netted two goals apiece on the day.

Browsky wasted no time early in the contest as he knocked in his first goal of the season three minutes in. Michael Melfi assisted the header-shot goal with a beautifully executed corner kick to the near post, giving the Blue Streaks an early 1-0 edge.

About 13 minutes later, the duo of Browsky and Melfi connected yet again for another first-half score. The shot moved Browsky (nine career goals) one goal closer to a double-digit total for his young career.

The first-half scoring would not slow down for the Blue and Gold as freshman Andrew Frank scored his first collegiate goal on a line-drive shot over the outstretched hands of the opposing goalie. Six minutes later, Miller chipped in a goal, his second score on the fall campaign.

More of the same Blue Streak dominance took place in the second half thanks to a beautifully placed assist from Jesse Marinaro to Miller. Marinaro joined Melfi as the team leaders in the assists column as each aided on two goals.

Freshman goalkeeper Anthony Nazario Rizzo shined in his first game as a Blue Streak finishing with four saves and holding the Bearcats scoreless. The first-year player was the third different goalie to start this year for JCU.

John Carroll will travel to Fayetteville, NC for a pair of games this weekend as part of the Soccer Kicks Cancer Methodist University Invitational. North Carolina Wesleyan is slated to be the Blue Streak's first opponent on Friday at 4 pm at the Monarch Soccerplex on the campus of Methodist University.
