The John Carroll volleyball team attempted to mount a second consecutive comeback at home on Saturday, but came up short.
The Blue Streaks (13-10, 3-2 OAC) dropped a four-set decision (16-25, 14-25, 27-25, 9-25) to the Ohio Northern Polar Bears (20-3, 5-0) at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
Alexa Webber recorded a team-high 14 kills in the effort.
Julianne McGervey added nine.
Katie Cosker led the way with 15 digs, and
Kit O'Shaughnessy finished with 32 assists. Three Polar Bears recorded double-digits in kills.
In the first set, JCU closed the ONU advantage to 19-15, but the Polar Bears ripped off five straight points before ending the set on a Chelsea Huppert kill. In the third set, JCU opened up with a 7-2 lead. ONU rallied to tie the set at 24 and 25, but kills by McGervey and Webber finished off a John Carroll win. In the fourth, ONU took the lead at 3-2, and did not look back, winning the set and match.
Next up for JCU is a road contest with Otterbein on Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m.
