Late heroics by Dre Regrut in the final minute of the game allows the John Carroll University to leave Westerville, Ohio victorious.
The 1-0 win allows John Carroll to move to 6-4-6, 3-1-2 in the OAC, while Otterbein falls to 8-5-1, 3-3-0 OAC.
A yellow card on Cardinals' Madison Burchfield resulted in a free kick for Regrut right out the box in the final two minutes of the game. Regrut buried the shot right over the Otterbein goalie to secure the win for the Blue and Gold.
The Blue Streaks came out strong in the opening half. Katie O'Donnell booted a shot only to be stopped by the crossbar at the 42 minute mark. Then, Jaclyn Audino headed the rebound off the crossbar, but Otterbein's goalkeeper Andrea Pohlman saved it.
Pohlman is leading the OAC in shutouts this season with seven. She also has the least amount of goals against her in the OAC, averaging 0.75 per game.
JCU only recorded one more shot in the half after O'Donnell and Audino's. Otterbein ripped off five shots in the opening half.
At the start of the second half, the Cardinals shot twice in the 43 minute mark. The first shot by Madison Burchfield was blocked, and the second shot by Natalie Ashbrook went wide.
Just a few minutes later, the Blue Streaks got off a series of shots. At the 40 minute mark, Bailey Fischer started the frenzy, but her shot was blocked. JCU kicked a corner, following Fischer's shot, that Audino attempted to head it in. Three more John Carroll shots missed the goal in the next two minutes.
The Blue Streaks led the Cardinals in second half shots, 7-2.
This was the second consecutive match in which the Blue Streaks have defeated Otterbein by a 1-0 score. The previous win was a 1-0 triumph in the quarterfinal round of last season's OAC Tournament that snapped John Carroll's 16-match losing streak to the Cardinals that dated back to 2002.
John Carroll will travel to Columbus, Ohio on Saturday to take on Capital University. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m.
