John Carroll had won three in a row heading into its meeting Tuesday night against Ohio Athletic Conference preseason favorite Heidelberg.
But the Berg put a halt to the Blue Streaks' winning ways with a three-set sweep in Tiffin. Heidelberg won by scores of 25-17, 25-20, 25-16.
Heidelberg hit .295 for the match compared to John Carroll's .115.
The closest set was the second. JCU got out to a 3-0 start and played neck and neck with the Berg, but the host squad won the final five points after the match was knotted at 20-20.
Leah Switalski had a team-best ten kills for John Carroll (11-9, 1-1 OAC).
Madeline McDowell added nine kills.
Heidelberg (12-6, 3-0 OAC) was paced by 12 kills apiece from Sarah Parker and Mariah Sullivan, as the Berg committed just eight errors all evening in their attack.
