Women's Basketball Comes Up Short In Saturday Bout With Muskingum

John Carroll women's basketball held an early lead on Saturday, but the Blue Streaks could not defend their home court in the end.
 
JCU fell for the third time in four games, as Muskingum took a 74-60 decision inside the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center. 

Katlyn Spahar led JCU with 15 points and four steals. Shmoo Pryor added 13 points and two steals, and Anne Principe had 12 points, all from three-point range. 

The first quarter ended with John Carroll on top, leading 23-16. Anne Principe helped with the lead, scoring six points and adding a rebound in the first quarter. Aiding John Carroll were four forced turnovers turnovers and eight missed shots from Muskingum. In the second quarter, the game went point-for-point. Muskingum led John Carroll in rebounds (27-22) and field goal percentage (38.2% and 30.8%). Muskingum took the lead into the half, 37-32. The defense held tough, with four combined steals from Katlyn Spahar and Shmoo Pryor, and nine points each from both Spahar and Principe.
 
John Carroll came out, regained a semblance of a lead, then the game began to be ran point-for-point once more. John Carroll took back a lead but after a brief tie at 42-42, the Fighting Muskies took a 47-44 lead. Muskingum took a larger lead in the fourth quarter. The advantage was raised to nine by Muskingum halfway through the quarter, and they held control until the end.
 
Jasmine Rogers recorded 11 rebounds in the loss.
 
The Blue Streaks are at it again in Alliance, Ohio against the Mount Union Purple Raiders this Wednesday at 7:30 PM.
