Men's Basketball Closes Out Regular Season With Senior Day Win

After setting a school record with 21 consecutive wins, John Carroll put the finishing touches on a strong regular season on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Streaks knocked off Muskingum by a score of 99-76 as part of the Senior Day festivities inside the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

JCU will be the #2 seed in the OAC Tournament; their opponent has yet to be determined.

Senior Simon Kucharewicz was featured all game long with multiple dunks and a dominant rebounding performance (20 points and 13 rebounds). Sophomore John Cirillo accounted for the majority of the bench points (15) and rebounds (eight).

Kucharewicz was unstoppable in the early stages of the game by scoring the first six points for the Blue Streaks. Four minutes later, David Linane threw an alley-oop pass to Kucharewicz to give JCU an early 10-point advantage.

Senior Danny Wallack netted a corner three-ball to give JCU a 37-22 lead with 5:24 left to play in the first half.

Moments later, Tony Vuyancih drilled a mid-range jumper off a crossover dribble to fuel the second-team offense. At the half, the Blue Streaks outrebounded the Muskies 30-20 to give themselves a 49-40 lead.

A 9-3 run in the first two minutes of the second half set the tone for the John Carroll offense.

Despite committing 22 personal fouls up to the 13:56 mark in the second half, JCU maintained a healthy 64-51 lead.

Following a Muskingum timeout, Linane registered his first three point field goal from the top of the key. Head coach Mike Moran's second unit continued to thrive, expanding the lead to 20 points.

The lead continued to grow as the game got physical; both teams reached the bonus before the halfway point of the period.

With the win, JCU improves to 22-3, 15-3 OAC on the year. The Muskingum Muskies finish the season at 6-19, 3-15 OAC following the loss.Next up for the Blue Streaks is the postseason OAC tournament. JCUSports.com will have information as it becomes available.
