Late Run By Kenyon Sinks Women's Lacrosse At Home

In a battle of programs experiencing early season success, the visiting team came away with a win.

The John Carroll University Blue Streaks (4-2) lost to Kenyon College Ladies (5-0) by a score of 13-11 at Don Shula Stadium. Despite the loss, Grace Curatolo and Gina Vilsack recorded strong performances with four goals each. The afternoon matchup marked the first time the two programs had played each other.

Curatolo broke the ice and scored the first goal of the game just before the fifth minute elapsed. Kenyon responded with four goals of their own, three of which were from sophomore Kat Englert. After goals from Vilsack and Curatolo, JCU found themselves trailing 4-3 halfway through the first half.

Freshman Brooke McQuinn added to JCU's comeback with her fifth career goal in the 18th minute of the game. Vilsack followed in her teammate's footsteps with her second score of the game to give JCU a 5-4 lead, and a 4-0 scoring run. The momentum appeared to be on the Blue Streaks side as Kenyon was forced to take a timeout.

The 7-0 scoring run continued for John Carroll thanks to goals from the sophomore scoring trio consisting of Meghan Harte, Vilsack, and Curatolo. Shortly thereafter, the momentum swung back to the Ladies thanks to four consecutive goals before time expired. After one half, the tightly-contested and high-scoring affair stood deadlocked at eight.

The see-saw matchup continued as both programs continued to exchange goals. For John Carroll, Curatolo and Vilsack piled onto their offensive scoring statistics with a goal apiece. The score stood at 11-10 in favor of Kenyon with 23:24 remaining in regulation.

Englert and Allie McLane each scored to extend the Ladies lead to three, their largest since the early stages of the first half. McQuinn responded with her second goal of the day, but the Blue and Gold's rally was not enough in the non-conference match. A tenacious Kenyon defense prevented John Carroll from coming back for the remaining ten minutes of the game.

Vilsack's final goal pushed her career point total to 100, becoming the second JCU player to reach the century mark.

A week from today, the Blue Streaks will travel to Adrian, MI to take on the Adrian College Bulldogs at 12 PM. JCU will begin its slate of OAC Conference games on April 9 when they play host to Wilmington College.
