Offensive Drought Continues in Loss to Fredonia State

If there was an opposite saying for the old line, "when it rains, it pours", then there would be an accurate description for the offensive woes of John Carroll.

JCU comes up short in their third straight fixture, this time in the form of a 2-0 loss with Fredonia State University.

The Blue Streaks now have a 3-6 all-time record against Fredonia State. Prior to the Wednesday, Sept. 28 loss, the Blue Streaks were winners in the two most recent meetings by outscoring the Blue Devils, 7-1.

Fredonia offered the lone scoring tally of the first half in the 32nd minute. A Keith Braun long ball was mishandled by the Blue Streaks, allowing Sam Greco to push home the opening score of the match.

The host Blue Devils would nurse that 1-0 advantage into the halftime break.

John Carroll dominated the possession game in the second half, producing several important scoring chances for the visiting Blue Streaks. Midfield play and pace was dictated by the central Blue Streaks, helping to produce 13 shots in the game.

Despite the chances, the Blue Devils were the side that provided the break through in the second half, via a 64th minute Parker Healy insurance goal. Healy was the final piece of a counter attack that slipped the ball past the Blue Streaks' goal line, giving the hosts a 2-0 advantage.

John Carroll manufactured several decent scoring opportunities within the final 15 minutes of the second half. No decisive touch was in the cards for the Blue Streak forwards, cementing the 2-0 defeat.

This is just the first time since the 2009 season that the Blue Streaks have failed to add a score in three consecutive games. Prior to that instance in 2009, the last similar stretch was not seen since the 1990 season. The drought now extends to 316 minutes since the last scoring tally from the Blue Streaks.

The loss pushes the Blue Streaks to 3-5-1 on the year, extending the losing streak to three matches.
