John Carroll University traveled to Marietta College on Saturday, with the host Pioneers prevailing, 65-58.
Â
Despite an impressive 22 points offensive explosion in the third quarter, the Blue and Gold fell to 4-13 and 2-8 in the OAC.
Â
Katlyn Spahar led all scorers with 26 points that was accompanied by an impressive seven rebounds, three blocks and one steal in 40 minutes of work.
Shmoo Pryor added 11 points while
Kahrin Spear chipped in an important 12 points in action off of the bench.
Â
John Carroll struggled in the early stages of the meeting, but quickly gained momentum.
Â
After facing a 22-1 deficit in the first quarter, the Blue Streaks outscored the hosting Pioneers 36-22 between the second and third quarters. That span included an stifling defensive performance in the second quarter that only allowed Marietta to score nine points.
Â
The combination of stellar offensive and stifling defense gave the visiting Blue Streaks a 47-44 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Â
Three point shooting and free throw conversions from Marietta erased the Blue Streaks lead and provided a cushion good enough for victory.Â
Â
Marietta would go onto hand the Blue Streaks a 65-58 defeat.
Â
John Carroll will look to avenge an overtime loss against the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders from earlier in the year in their next meeting on Wednesday night.
