For a good portion of the first set, the thoughts of an upset bid seemed possible for the underdog John Carroll Blue Streaks.
In sets two and three, however, those thoughts were denied as crosstown rival Baldwin Wallace won for the 25th time in 26 outings this season.
The Blue Streaks knew going in that this would be a tough Ohio Athletic Conference matchup. The Yellow Jackets of Baldwin Wallace entered the matchup 24-1 on the season, with its only loss suffered against Mount Union, another strong volleyball team in the conference.Â
 Â
The first set was an incredible contest between the two programs. Playing point to point, the set went down to the wire. Ultimately, however, Baldwin Wallace came away with the 25-22 triumph. Freshman
Sarah Calabrese came out on fire from the court, setting the pace in the opening match with six kills, two service aces, and five digs, good for eight points.
Â
The second set proved to be a much more lop-sided affair, although in the beginning it appeared much the same as the first. After splitting the first ten points, BW opened the flood gates by going on a 16-3 tear that was too much for the Blue Streaks to overcome. The final in game two was 25-10.
Â
In the third set, the Yellow Jackets followed a similar formula to win 25-14 and close out the match.
Â
Calabrese finished with double digits in two categories (10 kills and 10 digs), while
Caitlin Cianciolo,
Nicole Pilewski, and
Kayla Musso combined for 22 digs.Â
Shannon Atwell's 21 assists on the night pushed her above 500 total in her career.
Baldwin Wallace is now 25-1 and 3-1 in the OAC while John Carroll slips to 5-19 overall and 1-3 in league play.
