As the regular season hits the final stretch, John Carroll University men's basketball team secured a key road win with a defeat of Heidelberg University, 88-75, on Wednesday night.
Tim Ludlow led the Blue Streaks with a career-high 21 points and four assists. David Linane added 15 points.
Simon Kucharewicz finished with 11 points and 12 rebounds. John Carroll has not lost since Jan. 21, and have won 14 of 15. JCU has lost one game in the calendar year.Â
The Blue Streaks held the Student Princes scoreless for the first three minutes of the game. Alex Arellano put the first six points on the board for Heidelberg, but John Carroll was already ahead eight with just under 15 minutes left in the opening half.
Both teams were subbing five-for-five which kept the game fast-paced.
JCU shut down Heidelberg for two minutes during the heart of the half to gain a 17-point lead. The Student Princes hit back-to-back three-pointers to attempt to cut the deficit, but Kucharewicz threw down a dunk to shift the momentum.
With 4:16 on the clock,
Ryan Berger hit a jumper to put the Blue and Gold up by 19, the largest lead of the game.
Just seconds later, CJ Marshall answered with a three-pointer to attempt to cut the lead, but
Noah Bidar's three shortly after extended the lead once again.
The Blue Streaks headed into halftime carrying a 13 point lead, 45-32. At the half, Csuhran led the Blue Streaks in points with eight, and
John Cirillo led in rebounds with seven.
Heidelberg's offense came to life in the second half. With 15:11 on the clock, C.J. Marshall made a three-pointer to cut John Carroll's lead to eight. A Kucharewicz dunk and Ludlow three distanced JCU for a short time, but back-to-back three-point jumpers by the Student Princes narrowed the gap to five, 63-58, with 12:12 left on the clock.
The Blue Streaks steadily pulled away to end the game with a 13-point lead, 88-75.
JCU moves to 17-6, 14-3 OAC heading into the final game of the regular season. John Carroll will celebrate head coach Mike Moran this Saturday as they take on Capital University in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 2:00 p.m.
