John Carroll Falls To Bluffton In Final Frame

John Carroll baseball fell in the final frame, as the Bluffton Beavers overcame a 4-0 deficit for a 5-4 win in Port Charlotte, Fla. on Monday.

Matthew Donnelly had a triple in the game, going 2-for-4. Patrick Keohane was also 2-for-4, scoring a run. Monroe Donnelly went 1-for-4, driving in two on a double.

John Carroll, coming off a split against Haverford, put the ball in the hands of junior Jake Servidio. In six full innings, he gave up no runs on one hit with two walks. In those innings, John Carroll took control on the scoreboard.

Matthew Donnelly would lead off the top of the second with a triple. Joe Charpentier would send a fly ball to left field, enough for Donnelly to tag up and score. In the top of the third with the bases loaded, Monroe Donnelly would send a shot down the left field line good for a 2-run double to extend JCU's lead to 3-0. There would be no scoring until the top of the 8th when Patrick Keohane would cross home plate thanks to a Bluffton error.

Bluffton scored in the next frame. With runners on second and third with one out, Ryan Golden flew out to center field, deep enough to advance both runners and cutting JCU's lead to 4-1. In the very next at bat, Blake Fox would cut the lead in half with an RBI single to right center field. In the ninth, with runners on second and third with one out, Austin Prosser would send a shot to left field.

Keohane fired the ball in to Nathaniel Wenson who was able to cut down the tying run after a Charpentier tag. A Clayton Siders single to left would tie the game and the walkoff would come by a Golden single through the left side.

This loss puts John Carroll at 2-4 on the year and moves Bluffton to 3-0. Up next for John Carroll is a 12:00 p.m. matchup versus the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford in Fort Myers on Tuesday, Mar. 7.
