Baseball Rolls To Non-Conference Win Over Oberlin

John Carroll rolled to a non-conference victory on Wednesday afternoon, topping the Oberlin College Yeomen by a score of 6-1 at Schweickert Field.

Monroe Donnelly was 2-for-4 with an RBI, scoring twice. Jason Large reached base twice, going 1-for-2 with two runs and a stolen base. Mike Raschilla was 1-for-4 with his first hit of the season in his return to the lineup.

Fred Moore turned in a strong performance on the mound, punching out six Yeomen in seven innings.

Dominic Mittiga singled to center field to drive home two runs in the third inning. Mittiga was 2-for-4 with the pair of RBI. In the fifth, Nathan Reich reached on an error that scored Large. Monroe Donnelly doubled on a blast to deep right center field. The centerfielder bobbled the pickup, allowing Donnelly to get to third. On the relay throw, the catcher dropped the ball, allowing Donnelly to score.

Oberlin cracked into the scoring column when Mike Masella singled to center field in the seventh. JCU answered in the following frame when Matthew Donnelly punched a ball through the left side for an RBI.

Oberlin committed seven errors on the afternoon. John Carroll did not commit an error. Steven Virost and Mark Materise allowed only two baserunners in two innings.

John Carroll hosts Wilmington on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
