Men's Lacrosse Goes Wire-To-Wire In Dominant Win Over Purple Raiders

John Carroll men's lacrosse scored early and often on Wednesday night, dominating the University of Mount Union by a score of 17-2 at Don Shula Stadium.

The Blue Streaks (4-4) have now won seven straight OAC regular season games dating back to 2016, and are 2-0 in 2017. The defending OAC champions allowed one goal in the first period, and one in the waning seconds of the contest.

Declan O'Grady had four goals and one assist on the evening. Collin Rice scored three times, and Michael Hubert netted a pair and an assist. Connor Pike scored once and added two assists. 12 Blue Streaks either scored or assisted on a goal in the effort.

JCU roared out to a 4-1 lead following first period goals by O'Grady, Logan Calhoun, Rice, and Colin Corcoran. The Blue Streaks would blank the Purple Raiders in the second, netting six goals. Collin Rice scored in the first 90 seconds, followed by Skyler Blake's 23rd goal of the year at 11:36. Blake would later score his 24th in the third period.

O'Grady scored twice more before the half, with a Hubert goal in between. JCU held a 9-1 advantage with 4:52 to play, and Pike's goal made it a 10-1 advantage before the half.

Mount Union managed just eight shots in the first half against John Carroll's defense. JCU won the ground ball battle handily, 17-3. The Blue Streaks won the overall ground ball margin, 37-17. JCU keepers only had four saves, thanks to the defense in front.

Blake scored just 59 seconds into the half to make it 11-1. Riley's goal at 10:21 marked the only other score in the period.
A five-pack of goals from JCU extended the advantage to 17-2, including scores from Patrick O'Grady and Peyton Elliott. Hunter Holt scored for UMU with 15 seconds left.

The victory is the largest for JCU since a 15-goal win over Muskingum (17-2) in New Concord on Apr. 20, 2016. It is tied for the second largest margin of victory in program history.

John Carroll travels to Wilmington for a 1:00 p.m. start on Saturday
