The John Carroll men's lacrosse team continued to flex their offensive muscles, tallying 17 goals in a 17-5 victory over Wilmington College on Saturday afternoon in Wilmington.
John Carroll improves to 5-4, and a perfect 3-0 in OAC play. Wilmington drops to 2-9, and 0-4 in conference matches.
Declan O'Grady tallied four goals in the win, and now sits at 15 on the season.
Collin Rice led the team with two assists, and
Kyle Lake made five saves in goal.
The Blue Streaks fired 56 shots at Wilmington keepers, and led the ground ball battle, 45-22. The Blue and Gold were near perfect on clears at 38-for-39.
Collin Rice would get the scoring started just over two minutes into the game.
Michael Hubert would follow it up by scoring twice, with his second goal assisted by
Skyler Blake. With 8:23 left to play in the first quarter, the Blue and Gold had a 3-0 advantage, and the first quarter would end with that score line.
JCU would continue to pile up the goals. One minute and ten seconds into the second quarter, O'Grady would extend the lead to 4-0. Blake would continue the hot start to his career by scoring a goal less than three minutes later. After a goal by the Quakers, O'Grady, from the assist from Rice,
Bryan Neitzelt, and Blake would net three consecutive goals.
Wilmington would score a goal with 2:19 remaining, and John Carroll would go into halftime with a 8-2 lead.
The Fightin' Quakers would strike first scoring 37 seconds into the third quarter. However, the Blue Streaks would answer in a big way as the would score the rest of the goals in that stanza.
Skyler Blake scored off the pass from
Gary Anile, and O'Grady scored his third of the game less than a minute after the goal by Wilmington. O'Grady would score again, and
Connor Pike scored his first of the game from an assist by
Logan Calhoun.
Rice would score again, followed by a goal from
RP Whitty from an assist by Pike. Pike finished the scoring of the quarter after he received a pass from
Patrick O'Grady to score his second goal of the afternoon.
The Blue Streaks went into the fourth quarter with a 15-3 lead.
JCU and Wilmington would trade goals in the fourth quarter. After a Wilmington tally 33 seconds into the quarter,
Ryan Crater would answer with a goal of his own. The Quakers scored with 6:24 left in regulation.
Patrick O'Grady would add one more goal with 15 seconds left from a feed by
Collin Rice to conclude the game.
Kyle Lake made five saves in the contest. JCU would be winners in 16-of-26 faceoffs.
This is the third time this season that the Blue Streaks have scored 15 goals or more, and the second consecutive game they have done so.
John Carroll will travel to Berea, Ohio to take on Baldwin Wallace University on Wednesday, Apr. 12. Face off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
