Obstacles Too Many For John Carroll In Loss To Gannon

Coaches speak of obstacles as challenges to overcome.

In some cases, like Saturday afternoon for the John Carroll men's swimming & diving team, the obstacles numbered too many.

Their first meet back after the nine-day Florida training trip coupled with no divers and a quality opponent proved too great to overcome as teh Blue Streaks fell to Division II Gannon University, 182-106,,at the William H. Johnson Natatorium.

Complete Results

Things began well, as the team of Ryan Singler, Mason Beck, Brian Hulseman and Matt Ramsey went 1:38.86 to win the 200 Medley Relay.

After that, wins were hard to come by.

Tom Pacak snagged a victory in the 200 Free, winning by .05 of a second over Tom Marshall (1:47.22 to 1:47.27).

Beck won twice -- first a convincing victory by five seconds in the 100 Breast (1:00.99) and by over two seconds in the 200 Breast (2:19.74).

Ramsey collected a victory in the 100 Free (48.80) in another close race against Marshall.

Both Pacak and Ramsey had heartbreaking second place finishes -- Ramsey edged by .09 of a second in the 50 Free, and Pacak got caught in the final two laps after leading most of the way in the 500 Free adn was out-touched by .17 of a second.
