Cersosimo, McDowell & Rozsits Tally Goals As JCU Defeats Otterbein For Marinaro's 150th Victory

The John Carroll men's soccer team came up big in their matchup against the defending Ohio Athletic Conference champions Otterbein University Cardinals. The Streaks took control in the first half and never let go, capturing a 4-0 victory.

This was a big win for the Streaks, as they bounced back strong after their tough loss against Capital.

Tonight's triumph also carried the added bonus of being the 150th career victory for JCU head coach Hector Marinaro, who is now 150-78-25 in his 13th season at the helm of the Blue Streaks.

John Carroll did not waste much time getting the offense rolling. Almost midway through the 13th minute, Lawrence Cersosimo scored his fourth goal of the season, giving JCU the 1-0 lead.

JCU players fought persistently as four more shots were attempted by Jarrod McDowell, Stephen Schutt, and Brian Lutz. Their persistence paid off, especially for McDowell, as in the 23rd and 28th minute, McDowell turned the switch on, as he popped in back-to-back goals, giving the Streaks a 3-0 lead. The second of those goals was a back breaker, as he stole a pass deep in the Cardinals side and rifled the shot in the net.

McDowell now has four goals on the season.

In the first half, John Carroll recorded eight shots to Otterbein's four. Liam McIntosh also recorded a pair of saves.

The score remained 3-0 throughout a majority of the second half, with several attempts on goal from both the Streaks and Cardinals. With seven minutes remaining in the match, Eric Rozsits recorded his first goal of the season, giving
the Streaks a 4-0 lead over the Cardinals.

John Carroll outshot Otterbein, 15-8, in the match in addition to a 4-2 advantage in saves. McIntosh picked up his 45th career win and 25th career shutout.

With the win, the Blue Streaks now stand at 7-4-1 (3-1-0 OAC) on the season.

John Carroll returns to Shula Stadium on Saturday, October 13 to host Ohio Northern University at 7:00 p.m.
