John Carroll made it close in the end, but fell a few points short of repeating its 2016 win over Case Western Reserve University in the season-opening meet for both schools Saturday afternoon at the William H. Johnson Natatorium.

CWRU prevailed by a 153-147 count despite ten event victories and one school record from the Blue Streaks.
The day began with a win by John Carroll claiming first in the 200 Medley Relay. The quartet of
Forrest Campbell,
Mason Beck,
Jackson Cooper and Matthew Ramsey prevailed in a time of 1:36.44
Erik Sriubas made his collegiate debut a smashing one, as the freshman broke a 22-year-old school record with his winning time of 9:46.02 in the 1000 Free. The previous mark of 9:52.80 was set by Jeff Juergens in 1996.
Sriubas also won the 500 Free in 4:46.50.
Ramsey won two individual races as well, taking first in both the 50 and 100 Free. In the 50, he and teammate
Adam Lenz went 1-2 with times of 21.48 and 21.97, respectively.
His winning time in the 100 Free was 48.50.
Beck was a winner in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:01.17.
In the 100 Fly, Cooper and Campbell went 1-2, touching the wall in 52.33 and 53.26, respectively.
All-American diver
Ryan McClelland did his part by sweeping the diving events. His winning scores were 245.25 in one-meter, and 224.30 in three-meter.
JCU wrapped up the day with a win in the 200 Free Relay, as
Westin Fishel, Lenz, Campbell and Ramsey picked up the victory in 1:27.15.
The Blue Streaks host Ohio Northern next Saturday, October 27th, at 1:00 p.m.
