After playing two tightly contested games over the weekend, the John Carroll University women's basketball team welcomed a drama free evening at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
On the Tuesday night before Thanksgiving, the Blue Streaks feasted on Pitt-Bradford turnovers to concoct a 79-37 victory in a non-conference match-up.
This was John Carroll's largest margin of victory at home in three seasons, marking the first 40-plus differential since the Blue Streaks defeated Alfred State 85-32 on November 29, 2015.
With Pitt-Bradford holding 4-0 lead after four minutes had elapsed in the first quarter, junior
Dani Carlson, with an assist from freshman
Leslie Aguilar, scored the first points of the night for John Carroll on a three-pointer at the 5:43 mark.
Once JCU scored those first points, the Blue Streaks started to pick things up and ended up scoring another 11 points during the remainder of the first quarter. Carlson lead the team with eight points on two successful 3-pointers and one layup to help John Carroll take an 14-8 lead after the opening 12 minutes of play.
During the second quarter, Carlson scored another six points, which included her third three-pointer to give JCU its first double-digit lead at 17-7 with 5:56 to play in the half. After the Panthers were able to cut the lead back down to nine, junior
Sarah Sprecher would be the next player to bump the lead back to double figures with two successful free throws with 4:30 left in the quarter.
Nicole Heffington scored a three-pointer with nearly one minute left in the second quarter, and
Kahrin Spear dropped in a lay-up in the final 50 seconds, earning John Carroll a halftime advantage of 30-18.
Throughout the third and fourth quarter, John Carroll steadily increased their lead. The Blue Streaks outscored the Panthers 22-13 in the third and 27-6 in the fourth to build the final 42-point margin.
Carlson lead her team with 20 points (7-14 from the field, 6-13 from three-point range) as the only Blue Streak in double figures, but it was a well-balanced attack with 11 other Blue Streaks scoring at least two points.
John Carroll, now 2-1 on the season, forced 32-Pitt-Bradford turnovers, with Spear accounting for six of the Blue Streaks' 16 steals.Â
Pitt-Bradford (0-4) was paced by 12 points and nine boards by Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Preseason Player of the Year Jennifer Isenberg.
JCU's next game will take place on Sunday, Nov. 25, at Case Western Reserve University with tip-off at 2:00 p.m.
