Excellent performances by the Blue Streaks on day one of the 2018 Ohio Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships have John Carroll ahead of the competition Friday at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio.
The John Carroll men have earned a top three finish in each of the last five OAC Championship meets, and look to be headed in that direction again in 2018.
John Carroll accrued 72 points, followed by Mount Union (68), Ohio Northern (25), Otterbein (25), and Baldwin Wallace (23).

The field events got the Blue Streaks going early, as six competitors combined to score 34 points on their own.
Hayden Snow earned ten points for his team by winning the long jump title. His distance of 7.60m was by far the best mark in the field. Snow's jump was an OAC meet record, an Ohio Northern facility record, a personal best, and is currently the top mark in the event in Division III.
In the discus throw,
Nick Colby took the title with a 48.41m distance. J. J. Bost placed fifth with a 45.67m throw.
In the javelin,
R. Lilly was fourth with a personal best 54.90m throw.
J.J. Bost also had a personal best, finishing in sixth place with a 50.52m mark.
Jacob Fritsch rounded out the scoring in the event, throwing 49.88m which was good for seventh place.
The track events were anchored by a
Matt Andrews title in the 10000-meter run. Andrews clocked in at 32:28.68.
Ross Martin earned All-OAC honors with a third place time of 32:30.84. Matt Hallgrath also placed fourth in the event, finishing in 32:39.19.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase,
Ryan Scanlon was the top John Carroll finisher, clocking in at 9:30.86, good for fourth place.
Jimmy Zimmerman followed in sixth place with a time of 9:48.27.
Michael Kozlowski was the last Blue Streak to score in the event, taking eighth place in 9:51.02.

Luke Cancilla earned all-conference honors by placing second in a time of 8:00.15.
The Blue Streaks set themselves up well for Saturday in multiple preliminary races
Snow continued to best the field by finishing first in the 100-meter dash preliminary.
Cole Weirich (2nd) and
Deven Ward (3rd) also earned a spot in the eight-man final. Ward's prelim. Time was also a personal best. Snow also ran the fastest prelim. time in the 200-meter dash to earn a spot in that championship race, followed by a personal best from Weirich (4th).
Making appearances in the 400-meter dash finals on day two will be
Bobby Fogle and
Jarrod McDowell. Fogle finished sixth and McDowell was eighth.
