JCU Men's Soccer Plays To Draw With Tenth-Ranked Tartans

Since the last two meetings between the Tartans and the Blue Streaks have proven to be low scoring defensive affairs, there seemed to be good reason that today's game would play out the same way.

In this 21st edition of the rivalry between John Carroll and Carnegie Mellon that dates back to 1972, Sunday's match at Don Shula Stadium ended after 110 minutes in a hard-fought 0-0 tie, marking the fourth draw in the series and the second in as many years.

In the first half, John Carroll had just two shots while 10th ranked Carnegie Mellon had zero.

Despite being outshot 11-2 in the 2nd half, the Blue Streaks forced overtime with gutsy play from goalie Liam McIntosh who had six saves in the half.

There was not much action in the first overtime as both teams tallied one shot.  In the second overtime, JCU controlled possession the majority of the time and had four shots to the Tartans' one.

The Tartans were held scoreless for the first time this season, as they had 27 goals in their first seven games.

This was the first scoreless draw for the Blue Streaks since a 0-0 stalemate against Wilmington back in 2013. JCU is now 48-7-7 in its last 62 home matches dating back to 2012.

JCU moves to 4-3-1 on the season while Carnegie Mellon remains undefeated at 6-0-2.

The Blue Streaks will host Muskingum on September 29th in their Ohio Athletic Conference opener.
