John Carroll had an eight goal explosion in its Ohio Athletic Conference opener Saturday afternoon, dismantling Muskingum University by an 8-0 count at Don Shula Stadium.
In its last match, JCU played 110 minutes and played to a scoreless tie against nationally ranked Carnegie Mellon. Today, it took just 13 minutes for the Blue Streaks to crack the scoreboard.
Matt Nigro did the honors off a feed from
Evan Malpass.
Less than a minute later,
Brian Lutz converted a penalty kick for a 2-0 lead.
Lawrence Cersosimo then added to the count when
Chad Kanakkanatt found him with a cross at the 15:47 mark.
Jarrod McDowell then made it 4-0 in the 33rd minute when
Mikey Burrington and
Jared Ianiro were able to get him the ball.
Cersosimo, Kanakkanatt,
Jared Mattei and Burrington would all tack on second half goals as John Carroll broke its record for most goals in an OAC opener (the previous mark had been four on five occasions)Â
John Carroll outshot Muskingum, 30-2, and did not allow a shot in the second half, as the Blue Streaks improved to 5-3-1 and 1-0 in the OAC. Muskingum dropped to 5-5 and 0-1 in league play.
