Coming off a nail-biting match that ultimately ended in a 115-115 tie against the Eagles of Ashland University, John Carroll wanted to make sure that they did not get too close for comfort against their opponent again.
And they did just that. The Blue and Gold commanded control in the meet, winning 156 - 95 against the Quakers of Wilmington College.
Results
John Carroll's "B" team placed first to start a 1-2-3 punch in the 200 Yard Medley Relay.
Katelin Avenir, Sam Nagy,
Shelbi Shearer, and
Elsie Connell started the wave as the "A" and "C" teams claimed second and third places.
Paige Wnek touched first in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of  11:45.69. Teammate
Emily Yoos, with a time of 12:39.83, claimed third. Wnek also finished first in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:39.24. Fellow sophomore Tori Vale came in right behind at 5:41.57 for a second place finish.
Shelbi Shearer took first in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:05.93.
Olivia Talamo followed in closely behind to finish third.
Sweeping the 100 Yard Breaststroke, Vale,
Spenser Kale, and
Amanda McGreer claimed first, second, and third, respectively.
This would not be the only sweep for the Blue Streaks, as teammates
Chloe Ruggiero, Nagy, and Avenir finished first, second and third in the 100 Yard Breaststroke. Ruggiero, one of two seniors who said good-bye to Johnson Natatorium today, finished in 1:12.92, with Nagy and Avenir finishing in 1:15.45 and 1:16.74.
Going 1-2 in the 50 Yard Freestyle,
Gwyn Ledrick and
Kyleah Gaydos finished within a second of each other with times of 25.68 and 26.92, respectively. Also going 1-2 was
Hope Scherger and
Felice Ferrante in the 100 Yard Freestyle. Scherger won with a time of 56.72 with Ferrante swimming in at 58.87.
Taking the top three places in the 200 Yard Backstroke was Kale,
Maddie Dolce, and McGreer. Kale's time of 2:20.11 got her a first place finish. The Blue Streaks also took the top three spots in the 200 Yard Breaststroke. Nagy (2:38.00) came in first, with Shearer (2:39.28) and Avenir (2:44.73) placing second and third, respectively.
The senior duo of Ruggiero (1:07.63), and Mckenzie Stine (1:11.03) placed second and third in the 100 Yard IM. Both the "A" and "B" teams claimed first and second in the final event of the Senior day. Yoos, Ferrante, Dolce, and Shearer claimed first with a time of 1:44.70.
With this win, John Carroll remains undefeated against Wilmington, with a record of 19-0, since they started swimming against each other in 2000. JCU also complete a conference dual meet season undefeated for the fourth time in the last five years.
John Carroll finishes their regular season with a record of 5-2-1 overall and 4-0 in the OAC
The Blue and Gold will be competing at the OAC Championships on February 14-16Â at the University of Akron.
