Precise Shooting Propels Women's Basketball To 37-Point Triumph Over La Roche

Shooting was an curse Friday night.

Shooting was a blessing on Saturday afternoon.

John Carroll shot 32-54 (.556) from the field for the game, including 5-7 (.714) from three-point range, to blast La Roche, 84-47, on the second and final day of the JCU Tip-Off Tournament Saturday at the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

After an opening night in which the Blue Streaks scored 73 points but only shot 32 percent rom the field in a win over Fredonia State, watching the shots drop on Saturday was a great sight to see for the John Carroll coaching staff.

The post players had a field day against the Redhawks. Olivia Nagy ws 8-11 from the field for her 17 point as she also blocked five shots and grabbed four rebounds. Nicole Heffington was equally effective in scoring 17 points, going 7-11 from the floor. She also had seven rebounds and six assists.

The two were named Co-Most Valuable Players of the Tip-Off Tournament (full team below).

"They are a package deal," said John Carroll hed coach Kelly Morrone. "I am thankful we have them both and that they play with such an unselfish nature with one another."

Hannah Bouchy also reached double figures with a career high ten points, making 4-5 from the field that also included one three-point field goal.

The Blue Streaks led wire-to-wire for the second time in as many days. JCU scored 17 of the first 21 points of the game, and took a 22-10 lead after one quarter. By halftime, John Carroll had built the lead to 40-21.

John Carroll (2-0) had 13 players enter the game, and all 13 either scored a point or grabbed a rebound.

La Roche (0-3) was led by Ayanna Mazyck, who topped the team with 12 points and seven rebounds.
