Blue Streaks Put An Exclamation Point On OAC Men's Soccer Regular Season Crown

Jarrod McDowell (#17) had one of JCU's two goals at Wilmington
Box Score Sure, John Carroll had wrapped up its league-record 12th Ohio Athletic Conference regular season championship on Wednesday.

But the Blue Streaks had no intention of coasting into the postseason.

Goals by Jarrod McDowell in the 35th minute and Lawrence Cersosimo in the 38th minute held up, and John Carroll defeated host Wilmington, 2-0, Saturday evening in Wilmington, Ohio.

The Blue Streaks won the shots battle 8-6, but the Quakers held a slight edge in shots on goal, 5-4.

Connor Robinson made five saves this evening to preserve his league-leading seventh shutout in conference play. Robinson was 8-0-1 in league play, allowing just two goals all season.

The Blue Streaks are now 15-2-2 overall, 8-0-1 in the OAC, and will be the number one seed in next week's OAC Tournament. JCU will receive a bye into the semifinal round, and will play the lowest remaining seed following quarterfinal round play on Thursday, November 7, at 7:00 p.m.

John Carroll, which finished with 25 points (3 points for each win, 1 point for each tie), had the largest margin between first and second place in the standings since 2014, when JCU (9-0-0, 27 points) finished eight points ahead of Baldwin Wallace and Heidelberg (6-2-1, 19 points).
