A group of John Carroll wrestlers will be heading across the ocean this week to compete in the prestigious Sassari City Matteo Pellicone Memorial in Sassari, Italy.

The three-day tournament, which will feature a roster including three top women wrestlers, one of the United States best Greco athletes, and two men's college teams, will be held from May 23 to May 25.

The John Carroll wrestlers will combine with wrestlers from Case Western Reserve University to represent one team in the competition -- Cleveland-Ohio-USA.

Representing John Carroll will be Division III All-American Jarrad Lasko along with Spencer Dusi, Austin Victor, Shane Ging, Seth Winkle, Danny Novak, Christian Hipsher and Matthew Ferraro.

"After we planned the trip, the status of this tournament was changed by UWW and this become a top level event," said John Carroll head coach Mark Hawald. "Our wrestlers could potentially compete against World and Olympic Gold Medalists.  This will be an unbelievable experience that will be unlikely to recreate in the future. It has been a personal goal to bring my team on a foreign tour since I began coaching.  I have finally made it work and it is now something I plan to do every three years."

The team plans to document their trip through its twitter account: https://twitter.com/JCUwrestling

Wrestling will begin Thursday, May 23, at 10 a.m. local time. The whole tournament will be streamed live on FloWrestling.org.
