The Blue and Gold had another exceptional performance from the 4x100 relay team on the final day of the 2019 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
John Carroll's quartet consisting of
Garrett Clark,
Deven Ward,
Cole Weirich, and
Hayden Snow finished the event with a final time of 40.97 to place second in the nation and improve their finish by one spot from last season.
St. John's relay team won the event with a 40.92 time, just .05 seconds in front of JCU. After the Blue Streaks, the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater placed third (41.13), while the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh followed with a time of 41.21. Â
Clark, Ward, Weirich, and Snow each earned All-American status for their second-place performance.
This is the second time this season that Snow was named an All-American. He earned the title on Thursday for winning the long jump.
Ward also competed in the 100 and 200-meter dash, where he finished in fifth place for both events and, once again, be named an All-American. He finished the events with times of 10.44 and 21.30.
Both of his times in the national final improved from his prelim times. He recorded a 21.41 in Thursday's 200-meter prelim prior Friday's 100-meter with a 10.48.
Ward also made program history for his performances. By being named an All-American in three different event events, he became the first Blue Streak to do so in the same national championship.  Â
Nick Colby also competed on the final day of competition in the hammer. He placed tenth with a 56.41.
With five All-Americans (Colby in the discus) and 29 team points, John Carroll had its best performance at the NCAA Championships in program history. JCU finished in fifth place, with the 2001 Blue Streaks having the next-best performance. During that season, the Blue and Gold scored 16 points to take 13th place. Â
