John Carroll was focused on Friday evening.
Despite having to move indoors for the first time in their current title run, the Blue Streaks were all business in downing Mount Union, 5-0, in an Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal round bout held at the South Regency Tennis Club in Miamisburg, Ohio.
Madisyn Rini and
Lauren O'Malley pitched a shutout in their #1 doubles match, defeating Gretchen Groves and MacKenzie Cavalier, 8-0. The #3 tandem ofÂ
Alyssa Krupp and
Carlye Campagna were nearly as dominant in their 8-2 win over Gabrielle Wegener and Trisha Kohut.
Only the #2 duo ofÂ
Megan Reese and
Skye Harwood were truly tested, just as they were against this same Mount Union team in the regular season. After winning by an 8-6 score back in April, Reese and Harwood got past Jordan Teaford and Cora Shane this time by an 8-5 count.
It did not take long for the match to end once singles began. Rini picked up the fourth JCU point with a 6-1 6-0 win in the #2 match, and then O'Malley won by the same score at #1 singles to end the match.
John Carroll, which improved to 14-5, will take on #3 seed Ohio Northern in the championship match of the OAC Tournament Saturday at 2:00 p.m. Mount Union ends its season at 14-5.
