Blue Streaks Split Two Matches On First Day Of Oregon Trail Volleyball Tournament

John Carroll traveled thousands of miles to earn its first volleyball victory of the 2019 campaign, sweeping Linfield in its opening match of the weekend as part of a 1-1 day at the Oregon Trail Classic Friday in Newberg, Oregon.

The Blue Streaks opened the day against Linfield and posted a 25-16, 25-22, 25-20 triumph. Sarah Calabrese led the way on offense with 11 kills, while Cassi Calamunci added nine. Ally Bartolone and Shannon Atwell combined for 25 assists.

Anna Coughlin had a solid first outing as the starting libero, collecting 22 digs.

In its second match, JCU dropped a four-set affair to host George Fox University. Although the Blue Streaks won the first set, the hosts rallied to put the match in their win column, 17-25, 25-19, 25-23 and 26-24.

Calabrese and Calamunci each had 13 kills to account for 26 of the team's 43 markers in that category. Bartolone had a team high four service aces to go along with a team-best 19 assists.
