Good Times Continue To Roll At Start Of Second Half For JCU Women's Basketball

Coming off a huge and emotional victory over nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace, the Blue Streaks' momentum continued after beating Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Muskingum, 73-47, on the road Saturday afternoon in New Concord, Ohio.

The win stretches John Carroll's winning streak to six games.

Muskingum came into today's matchup with only seven active players on their roster. With few available options, the Muskies came out and surprised the Blue Streaks in the first quarter with a 15-15 tied game at the end of the first.

Regardless of a knotted up score after the first quarter, the Blue Streaks came out of the gates fast in the second quarter, scoring 24 points and never looked back.

Abby Adler hit her second three point shot of the day, giving the Blue Streaks the 18-15 lead over Muskingum.

The Blue Streaks forced a Muskingum timeout after John Carroll took their biggest lead of the game yet, 27-19, courtesy of points by Nicole Heffington, Olivia Nagy and Dani Carlson.

The visitors' lead continued to grow when Carlson drained a three point shot, raising the Blue and Gold lead to 33-22.

At halftime, the Blue Streaks went into the locker room confidently with a 39-27 advantage. Nagy led the team in points with seven, all of which came in the second quarter. John Carroll's bench displayed their talent and depth scoring 15 out of the 39 Blue Streak points in the first half.

Carlson kicked off the third quarter hitting a shot outside the paint. Carlson's success at the three point line continued when she made her third three point shot of the day to add to the Blue Streaks 48-33 lead. John Carroll went into the fourth quarter holding a 19 point advantage over the Muskies, 55-36.

JCU continued to dominate in the fourth and final quarter of the day. Muskingum found themselves struggling with four of their players holding three fouls each early on in the fourth quarter.

Rookie Jaylen Hoffman extended the Blue Streaks lead to 21 points scoring her fourth and fifth point of the night off of a layup at the 5:12 mark of the fourth quarter.

Carlson and Heffington continued to find success at the net tallying their 15th points of the game with the Blue Streaks leading 70-43, the largest lead of the game.

Sarah Miller led the Muskies in points with 14 followed by Emily Yeager with 12 as Muskingum fell to 3-12 overall and 1-9 in the OAC.

Carlson and Heffington guided the Blue & Gold offense with 15 points each followed by Nagy posting 12. Nagy also amassed 15 total rebounds (11 defensive & 4 offensive) and three blocks. Adler posted a career high 11 rebounds as well.

With the win, John Carroll improves to 15-2 overall and 9-1 in the OAC as the second half of the conference schedule got underway today.

The Blue Streaks return to the DeCarlo Varsity Center to take on the Mount Union Purple Raiders on Wednesday, January 29, at 7:00 p.m. in University Heights.
