UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Joe Ginley '16 has been named the Sports Information Director of the athletic department at John Carroll University, as announced by Michelle Morgan, the school's Director of Varsity Athletics and Recreation.
Ginley re-joins the Blue Streaks after spending four years as the Communications Coordinator for Athletics at Saint Ignatius High School in Cleveland, Ohio.
"We are thrilled to have Joe return to John Carroll as our next Sports Information Director," said Morgan. "His previous experience working in the department as a student will allow him to build on the success and legacy that the late Chris Wenzler provided."
Ginley graduated from John Carroll in May of 2016 and spent four years working under Wenzler in the Sports Information Department while getting his degree in communications.
"It is an honor to follow in the footsteps of my mentor, Chris Wenzler, in fulfilling this role at my alma mater, a place that I love deeply," said Ginley. "I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue his work at John Carroll. There is a strong foundation in place in JCU Sports Information, and I can't wait to build upon it."
Wenzler, a 30-year veteran of the JCU athletic department, passed away in June after a two year battle with cancer.
"I want to thank Michelle Morgan, President Johnson, and the interview committee for their guidance and support throughout the interview and selection process. There are so many people in my life, including many Blue Streaks, who have helped me become the person I am today," said Ginley. "As I learned as a JCU student, the John Carroll community is wonderful and welcoming. I can't wait to be a part of it again. I have lofty goals for our sports information department, but most of all, I want to provide memorable experiences for our students and student-athletes as we help them to develop into Men and Women for Others. I'm excited to get to work."
